Obama to make 1:15 p.m. ET statement on Syria

President Barack Obama will make a statement on Syria from the White House Rose Garden at 1:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, top aides announced.

Obama, who has been weighing military action against Bashar Assad's regime, will not be announcing imminent military operations in Syria, a White House official told Yahoo News. Instead, he will be updating the public about the way forward.

The president's remarks come as his top national security aides undertook two days of weekend briefings for lawmakers. Republican and Democratic Senators were to get separate sessions on Saturday. House members were invited to attend a 2 p.m. Sunday briefing.
