Obama invites all House Democrats for shutdown and debt talks

President Barack Obama has invited all 200 House of Representatives Democrats to the White House on Wednesday, ramping up outreach to Congress with a government shutdown dragging on and barely one week to avoid a potentially catastrophic debt default.

Lawmakers are expected at 4:30 p.m. ET, a White House aide said.

Obama also planned to do a round of interviews with four regional television anchors at 2 p.m. ET. The list of media markets was expected in the afternoon.

Later in the week, the president plans to host similar events with House Republicans, Senate Democrats, and Senate Republicans — though the order in which they are invited has not yet been announced.
