Kerry says additional sanctions on Iran now would be a mistake

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Kerry believes it would be a "mistake" for the Congress to impose additional sanctions on Iran now amid negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear program, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Tuesday.

Psaki said Kerry, who will hold a closed-door briefing on Iran at the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday, wants a "temporary pause" in the imposition of additional sanctions on Tehran by U.S. lawmakers to allow diplomats for the United States and other world powers to negotiate with Iran on the nuclear issue, Psaki said.
